Doofus

Age: 3 years

Gender: Male

Size: Medium

Location: Faversham, Kent

Doofus (previously Dekkie) has found himself back into our care through no fault of his own. Doofus is a large mid-sized dog, similar height to Pointer approx. 25 kg…energetic and fast. Has been DNA tested and at grandparent level is mainly mixed breed with 1/8 Alsatian, 1/8 Anatolian Shephard and 1/8 Italian greyhound. Eats twice a day - Kibble (Burns) and meat (Forthglade)- He sleeps on a chair downstairs and a dog bed on the landing. Get walked once or twice a day…3km minimum, weekends will get much longer exercise of 10km+ He can be nervous of people particularly men he does not know until he trusts you. Once relaxed he can try to own people by sitting on them. He gets agitated by deliveries and postmen and visitors to the door. New guests are introduced outside the house without paying too much attention to him and enter the house before him and he follows in and they will sit down and he will then go in for a controlled sniff. Will settle in 5 or 10 minutes. He can be lead reactive to big dogs charging at him. He is OK with dogs when he's off the lead but his recall needs working on although he does follow other dogs. We are looking for a home with either adults only or older children from 14 years upwards. He has had 2 dogs in the house for the first 6 months both female. For the last 6 months he has just been with one of these dogs a female dachshund 8 years old. Has been socialised with a few other dogs within the confines of the house and garden and has been on a few walks with other dogs successfully. But is dog anxious on walks whilst on the lead (recall is not consistent enough for take-off lead) especially on narrow paths with oncoming dogs and also dogs chasing balls as thinks the dogs are running at him. It can also be made to feel anxious by runners and walkers with sticks. Is food driven and can sit, stay and heal (once he has been out for 5 mins or so). Neutered, chipped and fully vaccinated.

  • Can live with dogs
